The Iowa small estate affidavit form is used in circumstances where the decedent has a limited amount of assets. To qualify as a small estate in Iowa, the estate in question must be valued at less than $100,000.
Iowa Small Estate Affidavit Requirements
- The decedent must be a resident of the State of Iowa.

- At least forty days have passed since the decedent’s death.
- The estate in question must be valued at less than $100,000.
- Must be filed in the local probate court where the decedent resided at the time of death.
How to Write an Iowa Small Estate Affidavit Form
First of all, fill in the information about the affiant, including affiant’s name and relationship to the decedent, the date of the decedent’s death and the address of the decedent.
In Section 2, check the box of option A through D that most applies: No will and no administration, no will with administration, will and no administration or will with administration. Attach all pertinent information including a copy of the death certificate, obituary and a list of family members and beneficiaries. Make sure to fill in all columns from page 3 and attach to the affidavit.
