- The decedent must be a resident of the State of Michigan.

- The estate in question must be valued at less than $21,000.
- Twenty-eight days have elapsed since the death of the decedent.
- Must be filed in the local probate court where the decedent resided.
How to Write a Michigan Small Estate Affidavit Form
Start the affidavit by entering the name of the decedent at the top of the document. In Section 1, check the box that most identifies the affiant’s relationship with the decedent and fill in the decedent’s place of residence and the date of death.
Next, attach a list of the personal property that is to be collected with the affidavit. Then, enter each of the heirs, their relationship to the decedent along with the percentages each heir is entitled to receive when the assets of the estate are distributed. Make sure to attach a copy of the death certificate to the affidavit.
